ALA Call to Service Corps Alum Roberta “Bobbie” Davis enjoyed the honor of speaking as a veteran alum of the AmeriCorps VISTA program at a national press event in Washington D.C.. The event was organized by the Community-Anti Drug Coalitions of America (CADCA) and the Corporation for National and Community Service to launch CADCA’s VetCorps program. To view Bobbie’s remarks, as well as other presenters at the VetsCorps launch, visit http://www.cadca.org/presswebcast.

Bobbie was selected to represent the perspective of veterans who have chosen to continue their national service through federal AmeriCorps programs. Bobbie is a veteran, widow of a fallen soldier from the Iraq War and a member of the American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary. In fact, Bobbie is carrying on her commitment to serve as the commander of her local Legion post.

In conjunction with news event, ALA issued a statement congratulating the Corporation for National and Community Service for identifying an additional partner to join ALA and others of us who are seeking to engage our nation’s veterans in civilian national and community service opportunities, as envisioned by Congress in the bi-partisan Kennedy Serve America Act. ALA also welcomed CADCA to the ranks of AmeriCorps grantees and AmeriCorps VISTA sponsoring organizations working in support of our nation’s veterans, servicemembers and their families. Additional information about CADCA’s VetCorps is available at www.cadca.org/veterans.
