ALA Conducts Visits AmeriCorps National Operating Sites

Earlier this year, ALA Call to Service Corps Project Director Bob Reeg paid visits to two Call to Service Corps consortium member organizations — Operation Homefront in San Antonio, Texas and Ride 2 Recovery in Los Angeles, Calif. The site visits provided ALA an opportunity for in-person conversation with Call to Service Corps members about their service experience to date. The visits also provided ALA an opportunity to review program rules and project policies and procedures with host organizations and member supervisors. Both members and supervisors offered constructive recommendations for project improvement, such as making the member enrollment process smoother, and lessening reporting burdens. Overall, the members reported positive service experiences, including receiving the opportunity to develop professional skills they will be able to carry forward in the future. Most important, each expressed their gratitude at being able to serve our nation’s veterans, servicemembers and their families through the AmeriCorps National program.

ALA Project Receives Year Two VISTA Project Continuation

The American Legion Auxiliary has received notice from the Corporation for National Service that its application to continue the VISTA component of the ALA Call to Service Corps VISTA for a second year has been awarded! The 12-month continuation period will cover VISTA member assignments made to consortium members between April 2012 and March 2013. ALA will outreach to current consortium members to determine their future AmeriCorps VISTA needs. Military, veteran, and civilian organizations not currently part of the consortium, but wishing to consider participating in the Consortium in 2012-2013, are encouraged to express interest in participation to project director Bob Reeg at rreeg@alaforveterans.org.
